I'm teaching on a cruise ship!

I can hardly believe it's true, I am still pinching myself...... Today Bec and I got offered to teach art/craft workshops on board the Rhapsody of the Seas cruise ship.
We get to go on the cruise fully paid for meals and all included......... OMG is this real??? It's $6999.00 per ticket for jeebers sakes...... this is such a fab opportunity.
We have only one day to organise ourselves, to pack to organise our classes - we will be teaching 8 classes over the 18 days - the rest of the time we get to relax and enjoy all the benefits on the cruise. The ship looks amazing!!!!!!! I am so nervous and excited too.
Bec is so excited, but cool as a cucumber - not stressing a bit..... me, well I'm beside myself..... lol
We finish in Sydney and wouldn't you know it - SIA starts the day we finish in Sydney - so yup, we are going to SIA too!! This is so brilliant I can't contain myself, nor sleep...... it's 12.10am and I have a very busy day tomorrow - but too much is going around in my head..... OMG OMG.
We have to close our store for the time away, and my darling husband Craig has offered to try to take more time off work to look after it. But really, it's worth closing!! We will put a sign on our door saying....... sorry closed because we are teaching on board a cruise ship!!!! LOL

  13. Lorri,

I'm incredibly inspired and relieved that this possibility exists! I'm a screenwriter/filmmaker and decided I'm going to Bergen, Norway to teach screenwriting... but to get there I decided I'm going to take a cruise ship and teach along the way.

I googled 'teaching at sea' and your blog came up!! Can u tell me who to contact about doing what you did?? We artists have an interesting life don't we?

Love your art by the way! .... And 'Roustan' is my friend Paul Roustan (I'm on his Mac) He's an amazing body painter. I just documented him painted 7 naked models for a fashion show... not a bad gig.

    Take care,

    Roark-

  14. Hello!
I've been working on cruise ships for a while as a seasonal youth councelor. I am a full time art teacher and was thinking of taking time off to teach abroad. I came across your blog and thought it would be great for me as well. Please contact me so I may ask you more questions: nell786@gmail.com

  15. Oh I hope your trip was wonderful. May I ask a question? Did you have to provide all the materials for your class? If so, did the limit the participants? Thanks

  16. Why give away your secrets of where you found the cruise job as an artist? We've been doing this since 1998--its a competative world out there in art...find the contacts yourselves...

    1. It is a competitive world, and we worked hard to get ourselves 'noticed' and to be asked to do this. I have been inundated with questions and now just delete the emails - hardly anyone was wanting to know how much fun we had, or congratulate us - they were all wanting information on how to do it themselves. You are right, I basically said - promote yourself, work hard and find your own contacts :)
It's the lovely ladies here from my blog that were genuinely happy for us - not the googlers spamming us for information!

    2. Also, why remain anonymous?
It would be nice to know who you are :)

  17. I congratulate and am happy for you. I have a contract to teach on 3 cruises next year - I have been crafting since Noah built the Ark and have run many workshops and now I have my reward! My biggest problem has always been the students who come to 2 classes and the promote themselves as a teacher! Good luck and Happy Cruising and Crafting! ps I am signing anonymously as I don't want to be inundated with queries either

  18. I am an artist and would also like to know who to contact to teach on a cruise ship. I was a teacher for years and have recently retired. I am sure that you had a wonderful experience. I also understand if you want to keep your contacts confidential.

  19. To the artist who posted this article, how was your experience? I have heard that because instructors are considered "crew" you could be asked to fill in when needed with various jobs.

I am currently teaching art in two elementary schools and am looking for a new way to spend my summer. Thank you for your time!

  22. Just came across this old post. Hope you girls had the best time. Sorry about those rude ones only thinking of setting sail themselves and not simply wishing you Bon Voyage!
